Summary:

This study aimed to validate the CM diagnosis for obesity and its sub-phenotypes. The diagnosis of risk factors and complications associated with diabetes and obesity made by Western Medicine (WM), Chinese medicine (CM), and medical biometrics (MB) were correlated.

468 community-living Chinese subjects enrolled in the study and 299 were assessed and interviewed by CM practitioners. Poor inter-individual correlations were observed for a large number of fields and variable used by CMP to define disease symptoms. It was also found that there were little correlations between CM and WM diagnosis.

The conclusion in the study suggested that since some symptoms of CM clustered to form latent variables, correlations between latent factors of CM and MB to identify CM variable subsets for further correlation with WM could be explored.
