Background

To prepare the newly employed Junior Chinese Medicine Practitioners (JCMPs) for their service commencement in Chinese Medicine Centres for Training and Research (CMCTRs) set up under tripartite collaboration of Hospital Authority (HA), Non-government organizations and local universities. HA Chinese Medicine Department (CMD) has conducted pre-service training since 2003, which has been evolving from a one week introduction talk to a 7-week Western Medicine /Chinese Medicine training course. The programme has been enhanced and modified every year in responding to the changing training need and new challenges faced by the new generation JCMPs.

Objective

As the new graduates have limited exposure to WM and CM practice in Hong Kong (HK) and they will act as important providers of primary health care services in the community, the main objective of this programme is to allow JCMPs to gain a better understanding of our medical environment and to acquire knowledge in the management of common problems in the community setting including current approach to quality, safety and risk management.

In addition, since these JCMPs will be conducting the integration of WM & CM care (IWCC) programmes at HA hospitals; the training also attempts to foster dialogue among CMPs, WM clinicians and other allied healthcare providers so as to enable them to perform effective coordination of care across different sectors.
