Integrated Chinese-Western Medicine Programme

• Background
  • To gather experience in the operation of Integrated Chinese-Western Medicine (ICWM) and Chinese Medicine (CM) in-patient services, the Hospital Authority (HA) has earlier implemented the ICWM services through a Pilot Programme, to provide ICWM treatment to the eligible patients under designated disease areas through the 18 Chinese Medicine Clinics cum Training and Research Centres (CMCTRs). To dovetail with the policy direction of strengthening ICWM services, the HA regularised in early 2023 and further expanded the services to cover more disease areas where CM has an advantage as well as hospital sites.
    
    Currently, the designated disease areas of ICWM services include stroke care, musculoskeletal pain management, cancer palliative care, cancer care pilot programme, respiratory care pilot programme and knee osteoarthritis care pilot programme. The list of designated hospital sites is appended at Annex.
• Target Patients
  • HA patients who are eligible persons aged 18 or above and fulfill the Programme criteria as assessed by the Western and Chinese Medical Teams.

• Programme Content
  • After clinical assessment by the Western and Chinese Medical Teams at the designated hospital sites, the Chinese Medical Team will invite eligible HA patients to participate in the Programme.
  • Participation in the Programme is entirely voluntary. Invited patients who wish to participate in the Programme must agree to the related terms and conditions.
  • The Chinese Medicine Practitioners will provide CM consultation to the enrolled patients at designated hospital sites. CM treatment (e.g. Chinese medicines, acupuncture etc.) will be provided according to clinical assessment and clinical protocols jointly formulated by Western and Chinese Medical Teams.
  • This Programme will not interfere with the original Western Medicine treatment and discharge plan of patients.
  • After discharge, patients may make own appointment for Government-subsidised out-patient CM services or non-subsidised services provided by the 18 CMCTRs.
  
  
  
• Fees & Charges
  • CMCTRs will charge HK$120 per CM attendance (excluding HA hospital service fees).
  • CM service fee will be fully waived for enrolled Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients. CSSA recipients should inform the concerned CMCTRs before enrolment and provide valid original supporting documents.
